Fy Gwanwyn Sky

Score:

For Brass Quintet – 2 Trumpets, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time: 2 Minutes

Program Notes:

This is a piece that was originally created on the recorder during a Society for Creative Anachronism event somewhere around 2012, as my bardic persona Eleri Verch Howell. I originally imagined playing it in a consort of recorders.

I later arranged it for a Brass Quintet in 2021 and reimagined it with some modern harmonies while keeping the original feeling of a Rennaisance era-ish folk tune.

Fy Gwanwyn Sky translates to My Spring Sky. Imagine the first feeling of warmth after winter and the emerging of flowers from the previously frozen earth as you play this. At the very least, It will help you feel better if you tire of months on end of grey skies and dislike the cold , as I certainly do.
